Vogue Very Easy 8379

I bought this pattern a little while ago with the view to making a Diane von Furstenberg-esque wrap dress. I had never sewn with stretch fabric before so I was more than a little apprehensive. However, after working with it, I'd definitely do it again!

The pattern
The pattern was easy to put together but there were more elements that previous Vogue Very Easy patterns I've used (collar, ties, darts etc).

The fabric

The hardest part about this pattern was working with the stretch fabric so I relied heavily on my overlocker. I had a bit of trouble just doing the basic darts in the bodice as my machine ate the fabric but after putting a small piece of interfacing behind my work, this problem was solved.

The fabric itself was bought from Fabric Frenzy. At first I thought the colours may be too bright for work, but I think the style tones it down a little.

Overall
I love this dress and pattern. To me it has a 1970s, Diane von Furstenberg feel to it. The only problem is that I can't wear it too often as it is so bright. I'm planning to make another in plain black but I just need to find the time...

Vogue Very Easy 8511

I was finally able to get photos of my Vogue Very Easy 8511 dress.

The pattern
The pattern was extremely easy to put together. The princess seams were not at all difficult and the pleats in the skirt were simple. It definitely lives up to its name - very easy!

I didn't line the bodice. I finished the neckline and arms off with bias binding. I forgot to trim away some of the fabric so the armholes do dig into me. I might fix that up if I get the chance.

The bias binding (my modification) was probably the most difficult thing to do.

The fabric
I used a beige/off-white cotton drill fabric. The fabric was easy to work with but it is a bit of a pain to iron.

Overall
I'm very pleased with the results. When I wore it today a number of people commented and asked where I bought it! I'll definitely make this again, though next time I might attempt a sleeved version.
